About Umarn Platform
Umarn ("the Platform" or "the Service") is a WhatsApp-native campus commerce operating system owned and operated by Umarn Global Technologies Ltd. The Service provides digital infrastructure connecting verified student buyers, campus vendors, and dispatch riders across supported university campuses, beginning with the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC).
By accessing the Platform via WhatsApp, website, or any associated API, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately cease using the Platform.
Escrow Payment & Payout Engine
To ensure complete trust and eliminate fake payment alerts, all customer payments on Umarn are processed securely via Paystack and held in an automated escrow ledger until successful order completion.
Two-Way Delivery Handshake (Escrow Release Protocol)
- Order Placement: Customer pays through Paystack. Funds are locked in escrow.
- Vendor Drop-off: Vendor or rider marks the item as dropped off.
- Customer Confirmation: Customer receives a WhatsApp prompt to inspect and confirm receipt.
- Payout Execution: Upon customer confirmation, escrow funds are instantly credited to the vendor and rider accounts.
- Auto-Confirmation SLA: If an unconfirmed order has no reported dispute within 12 hours of drop-off, the order auto-confirms and funds release automatically.
User Roles & Operational Rules
Buyers:
Must provide accurate delivery location pins and inspect items promptly upon drop-off. Fake dispute submissions or intentional non-confirmations will result in account suspension.
Vendors:
Must accurately list product descriptions, prices, and stock availability. Vendors pay a platform commission only on completed sales. Direct attempts to bypass the platform escrow system for campus sales discovered via Umarn result in shop deactivation.
Riders:
Must fulfill campus deliveries safely within designated target times. Orders with total values exceeding threshold limits are assigned exclusively to riders with verified completion history.
Dispute Mediation & Refunds
If an order is damaged, incorrect, or undelivered, either party may trigger a dispute via WhatsApp chat.
When a dispute is logged, escrow payout is immediately frozen in `PAYMENT_REVIEW` status. Umarn campus administrators review order metadata, delivery timestamps, and evidence from both parties. Decisions rendered by Umarn mediation are final, resulting in either a full customer refund or vendor payout release.
Prohibited Goods & Activities
The listing or sale of any of the following items on Umarn is strictly prohibited:
- Illegal substances, narcotics, or unapproved prescription medications
- Weapons, explosives, or hazardous materials
- Counterfeit currency, fraudulent financial services, or stolen goods
- Explicit, offensive, or non-consensual media
Limitation of Liability
Umarn acts as an infrastructure platform and escrow intermediary. While we enforce strict KYC verification for vendors and riders, Umarn is not directly liable for individual product manufacturing defects, food spoilage beyond designated delivery SLA windows, or indirect commercial damages.
